The standard pipe labeling guide, shown to the right, gives the basics of industrial
pipe identification as defined in the pipe labeling requirements
of both the ANSI A13.1 and ASME A13.1 codes. These are the pipe
labeling standards used by most facilities. This guide shows you,
at a glance, the color code, label and text size, and recommended
label locations for pipe markers. Using this standardized system
allows quick identification of pipe contents and their associated
hazard potential.

Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration's (IIAR) pipe identification
